Picked up a new toy this weekend while at the Cabin

So every year I try to add atleast one Pistol and one Rifle to the "Collection"... Rest of the year I buy ammo and a few accessories for said purchases...

While down at the Cabin this weekend with some friend we made our usual pilgramage to the little local gun shops... Sometimes you can find some pretty cool stuff...

I had been wanting something in .40S&W, and being a long time Glock owner I had been wanting to pick up either a G22 (Standard) or the G35 (Competition Long Slide)... But both of the two shops I went to were out of Glocks in everythng by 9mms and Compacts in every other caliber...

They were pushing the Taurus, some Kimbers, and Springfield Arms...

Not sure, why, but I had to get my greedy paws on something new... I really wanted a new toy, so I picked up a SA XDm-40...

So, quick opinion on it... I realy like the look, feels really nice in my hand, slides really smooth, pretty easy to opperate, load and unload, easy to strip and clean...

I only got to put about 16 rounds (1 mag) through it, but they all went smoth, light recoil, no FTF, stove pipe or jamming... I used Blazer Brass 165 gr FMJs... Seemed dead on accurate at about 25 feet, shooting a small circle on a tree...

My only negatives or concerns...

1. When it is fully loaded 16 in the Mag with or without one in the pipe, the mag release seems really really tight... You have to quickly, push up on the mag from the bottom with your left palm, then quicky with your right thumb hit the mag release which is an ambidextrous button and it'll come out... But it does take all 16 of its stated rounds, no problem... My Glocks are always a bitch to get the last two rounds in...

2. I'm concerned about the all black finish of the slide, that it'll either fade, rub off or rust... Just gives me that feeling...

I really like my Glocks, but I'm pretty excited about this new addition, I hope to get to the range in a week or two an really try her out...

Extra, 16 round mags are anywhere from 25-35.00 for factory Mags... I'll want atleast 10 more... :) after I get her broke in and decide she is a keeper...

Still want a Glock in .40 too...

I really need to find a good background/Backdrop for taking pics of stuff vs the crappy chair out in the shop...

OK anyone else here have a XDm or an XD???

Whats up with the slide rails on each side of the case it comes in???

It seems like you could mount gadgets right to the box on each side.... (1st, 2nd and 3rd Pics)
Though I don't know why, as they would have to come off to open it...

Also, whats up with the mag loader??? (4th pic, its in the case above the holster, right of the dula mag holders)

It does work, takes a second to get used to, but the question is on, it seems to be made to mount on the under gun rails on the front of the pistol ???

I put it there for a sec, trying to figure out what the heck it was or why it had the mounts like that... Its mounts are just like a Surefire or some other under barrel Light or laser...

Those two things are both odd to me... Like I said above, I'm normally a Glock guy, so theres a bit of a learning curve here I guess...

Accessories can be mounted to the sides of the holster or mag holders for field carry. Light holder, mag loader, bayonet, etc.
I don't know about the box but maybe its a locking system they are coming up with?

I have the pre-M .40 and like it a lot. if it wasn't for the interchangability of mags with my XD sub-compact .40, I would trade it off for the M model - love that high-cap

I have an XD40 (photo attached) that I really like. My only complaint is the mag loader, for some reason it is a PITA to use. I found the loader for my CZ works on the XD mags and it is much easier to use so I always reach for that one.

Springfield Armory does make nice firearms! :coolbeer:

I don't have an XD, but my experience with other guns is that the mag release should improve as you use it more. It just needs to be broken in.

Nice looking toy. Have fun with it.

I have the xdm 9 and love it. The mag release does indeed become perfect with use. I ditched the factory holster right away as it seemed unsafe to me as the weapon would want to fall out too easily. I couldn't find a balance between retaining the weapon and maintaining a smooth draw. This was solved by buying a Blackhawk Serpa level II holster. Now it's perfect. Nice pictures.
